The 2024 U.S. presidential election is scheduled to take place on November 5, 2024, where voters in the United States will select a new president and vice president. This election will be important because it will determine whether current president Joe Biden (Democratic party) will be voted for a second term or the White House returns to the Republicans. Here is a sketch of the events taking place before the elections:
Major Political Parties & Candidates Democratic Party:
Joe Biden: The current president is seeking re-election. He is 81 years old and if he wins a second term, he would be the oldest ever president of America.
Kamala Harris: Biden’s vice president is running as his running mate again in 2024.
Republican Party:
Donald Trump: Trump, the former president who faced off against Biden in 2020 elections, has come out again to contest the Republican party’s nomination. Trump has become the focus of the GOP primary and is still quite relevant in the party.
Other GOP contenders: There are several others, including the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, Former UN Ambassador, Nikki Haley, and former Vice President Mike Pence, who are all competing for the nomination. However, most of the polls have shown Trump in the lead.
Third Parties:
Libertarian Party: Possible nominees could be Spike Cohen or Jo Jorgensen, but so far third candidates have had little effects on the overall outcome.
Green Party: A candidate is likely to be fielded by the Green Party but their role is often minimal especially in heated battle as this.
Independent candidates: Once in a while, a known persona may step in the fray as an independent candidate.
Key proposed topics
Economy: High rate of inflation, states’ abilities to create jobs, wage levels, and the national debt will be mentionable problems. Political or social discourse will revolve on economic issues as most Americans will ask themselves whether the rising costs of living is worth the beneficial changes in some aspects.
Healthcare: The accessibility of proficient medical attention on reasonable costs, what happens to the ACA, and the changes which the health care system will undergo, are persistent issues.
Climate Change and Environment: Climate change will be an issue because of the level of awareness on the increasing number of extreme weather events and the already alarming environmental issues.
Foreign Policy: Such international relations as those involving China and Russia, conflicts such as the war in Ukraine, etc. will pose foreign policy challenges.
Social Issues – Abortion, gun control, equality for the LGBTQ+ community, and racism are socio-political subjects that will continue creating rift on political discussions.
Electoral Process
The system of votes for presidential election in US is the Electoral College whereby winner of a candidate in each state is granted equivalence of its electors whose number is almost population based. The candidates contest for two hundred and seventy (270) votes. Usually states such as California, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania and Michigan are seen as battleground states where the races are likely to be very close.
Primaries: The election season does not commence until the primary and caucus elections, which occur in the early part of 2024. The Republican primaries are these very political events that are anticipated to draw significant attention owing to the presence of Donald Trump’s shadow, who seems to eclipse them all.
General Election Campaign: After the conventions in tarining day will sweep on astrategies to all most all battleground states.
